Changes at The Healing Collective

Tracy Shulsinger • Nov 02, 2022
IMPORTANT LETTER FROM TRACY SHULSINGER, FNP.

Please read on for and update on some important transformations we
are undergoing at our clinic.

"I hope this letter finds you healthy and well. There are some big changes happening at The Healing Collective that I need to share with you."

"The past year and a half has been extremely challenging for everyone, including our small healthcare clinic.

In order to further our standard of providing quality holistic, relationship-based care to our community, we must adapt to meet increased costs and staffing shortages that are impacting clinics nationwide.

Throughout the pandemic we have worked tirelessly to make ourselves available to serve you and insure that impact of these challenges do not impact patient care. In order to remain vibrant into the future, we will be making changes to streamline our administrative processes, meet our rising costs and reduce demand on our staff due to being short staffed.

  • As of January 1, 2022 we will no longer accept health insurance to allow us to focus more of our energies towards patient care.
  • For the first time since 2016, we are marginally increasing our appointment pricing for Functional Medicine appointments (starting Jan 1, 2022).
  • Effective immediately, we are no longer offering phlebotomy services (blood draws) and will instead be referring our patients out to local labs already structured for efficient sample collection.

These changes will mainly impact our Functional Medicine care and will have minimal effect on our Physical Therapy, Frequency Specific Microcurrent and Acupuncture services.

We value and appreciate all of you who have trusted us to be a part of your health journey and understand that these changes might make it more difficult to access our functional medicine services. We offer our sincere apologies in advance to all that might experience hardship."

In anticipation of questions this may bring up, here are more details:

1. How much will appointments cost?

The price increases are just for Functional Medicine appointments (Physical Therapy, Frequency Specific Microcurrent and Acupuncture appointments costs will remain the same as they already are):

  • Initial Appt: $350 (75-90 minute initial appt)
  • Follow Up Appt: $225 (up to 45 minute appt)
  • Extended Follow Up: $300 (up to 60 minute appt)

2. How often do I need to be seen?

This varies based on your individual needs and treatments. Typically after the initial appointment, a follow up is 4-8 weeks later. Once there is a stable treatment plan and we are seeing improvements, follow ups are often every 3-6 months. After there is consistent improvement and stability, routine monitoring and follow up is typically recommended every 6 months.

3. Are labs billable to insurance?

This is determined by your individual insurance coverage for labs. Most people have some amount of insurance coverage for labs. We will continue ordering labs in the same manner so whatever your prior experience has been with your insurance company should continue.

4. Can I have one last appointment before you no longer take my insurance?

We are delaying the insurance related changes until January 1, 2022 to give our patients time to schedule another covered appt. You can schedule with Tracy, FNP or Dianne, FNP.

5. Will you provide Superbills for me to submit to my insurance?

Typically just PPO insurance plans provide out-of-network reimbursement. For our patients who check with their insurance providers and are told that they do have out-of-network coverage we will provide a Superbill. We ask that you submit your Superbill and receive some reimbursement from your insurance provider prior to requesting an additional Superbill, just to be sure we know that reimbursement will be received.

6. Can you refer me to another Function Medicine practice that takes insurance in the area?

Unfortunately, there are no other Functional Medicine providers in the area that accept insurance that we are aware of.

7. What is the process if I choose to discontinue my care?

You may continue to access your lab results through the portal. Please email us at functionalmed@thehealingcollective.us if you would like to download all of your labs through the Charm portal so we can be sure they are all “shared.” We can also transfer your labs to another practice directly if you complete a Release of Records. This is a required step due to HIPAA (Patient Confidentiality Law).

"Lastly, I want to deeply thank you for all of the years of providing care to you! The Healing Collective began in 2014 and has steadily grown since then- mostly from patient referrals. Thank you for trusting us with your care and your loved ones care! We would love to continue for years more and these changes are setting us up for many more years of supporting you. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Wishing you so well,

Tracy Shulsinger, FNP

30-Day Support Program!
By Tracy Shulsinger 30 Oct, 2023
The next several blogs will be presenting a series of information about menopause. This topic is SO immense that it will take many months to share...besides menopause is a journey! This series will open with presenting an article, “Women Have Been Mislead About Menopause” in the New York Times that was published in February 2023. I tremendously appreciate this article due to the blend of compassion and sensitivity regarding women who suffer through menopause and the scientific reporting from many excellent sources including large and small studies and experts in the field. Menopause is a topic that I am very passionate about. It affects every single woman and despite this wide reach, there is still a high amount of reported confusion, distress and poor impacts to quality of life and global health reported by women during per-menopause and menopause. One healthcare topic that affects half of the population in the world is worth giving lots of attention! But yet there is tremendous controversy about this topic and many women report difficulty having a satisfying conversation w/ their providers about menopause- one where they feel well informed of benefits and not just risks, lack of judgment and a sensitivity to their experience. Here are some important take-aways from this article regarding the many signs and symptoms women can experience: About 85% of women experience symptoms during menopause Hot flash’s are too often all that is discussed and understood by women as menopause symptoms. In fact there are whole body, systemic changes as well. The severity and experiences vary woman to women but here is a more complete list of signs and symptoms: Brain: Vascular effects, cognitive changes/impairments, poor word finding, forgetfulness, short term memory disturbances. Mental/Emotional Health- Insomnia, depression, anxiety, irritability, reduced libido Skin/Mucous Membranes- Dryness to skin, mouth, eyes; accelerated skin aging in appearance and loss of elasticity Cardiovascular- Increased cholesterol Gastrointestinal- Digestive disturbances Genitourinary/Vaginal- urinary leakage/incontinence, dryness, painful intercourse, atrophic vaginitis, increase in infections such as “BV” (bacterial vaginitis) and yeast infections, excessive vaginal bleeding, unpredictable menstrual cycles, shortening or lengthening of menstrual cycle. Musculoskeletal- joint pain, bone density loss that can lead to Osteopenia and further to Osteoporosis Metabolic- weight gain and body composition changes including reduction in muscle mass and increase in belly fat

Everyone talks about what to expect during pregnancy and the first year of a child’s life, but few women are aware and few allopathic providers are talking about what to expect in perimenopause, which is why it is vital to increase awareness and inspire action. Most women enter perimenopause in their 40’s, but changes can begin as early as mid to late 30’s. These changes and symptoms can begin up to 10 years before menopause. Perimenopausal women may experience none, some, or all of the following symptoms:
Most of the crops in the US are sprayed with Glyphosate which is found in 70% of urine
By The Healing Collective 06 Oct, 2023
Glyphosate is a worldwide commonly used herbicide and is the primary toxic chemical in Roundup™, as well as in many other herbicides. Have you been eating a dangerous dose of poison without even knowing it?! Since the 1970s, we've seen a huge increase of a herbicide called glyphosate on our food crops - scientists estimate that over 150,000 tons are sprayed annually across America!

This month's blog is inspired by the times- back to school, approaching fall a.k.a cold/flu season and the increase in COVID cases amongst us. In fact I was exposed myself and am now nursing myself back to health. The functional medicine approach is quite simple when it comes to maintaining and improving health. Eliminate what doesn't belong in the body that contributes to disease and introduce or increase what supports health. In regards to viral illnesses such as the common cold and COVID, this approach is very helpful. While we still can be exposed and contract an illness, the severity of the illness can be significantly reduced by following dietary considerations and taking supportive supplements before, during, and after an illness.
Cutting Edge Frequency Specific Support for Surgical Procedures
By Jessica Tierney 15 Aug, 2023
We have supported procedures including root canals, tooth extractions, shoulder replacements, hysterectomies, orchiopexies, ACL reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, hip replacements, knee replacements & revisions, spinal surgeries, fusions, ankle surgeries, fracture ORIFs, osteoporosis & osteopenia, abdominal surgeries, and many many more procedures with frequency medicine. While we love to help our patients prevent the need for drugs or surgery, there are times when a procedure is essential and we especially enjoy helping the process go as smoothly as possible.
