Considering an iCare PEMF Home Unit? Here are some Frequently Asked
Questions and information you may find useful as you make the decision to purchase a Home Unit through Dr. Jessie or Dr. Madelyn at The Healing Collective.

Disclaimer

Disclaimer: the iCare software, water charging leads, and PEMF technology are not meant to diagnose, treat, or cure any condition or dis-ease. By running the iCare, users acknowledge that the app, felt pad, and cables will be used in accordance with their intended purpose to promote wellness. The iCare pad is meant to remain dry; do NOT wet the pad. The PEMF filed created by the pad will easily penetrate clothing, fabrics, plastics and its clear protective bag. Clean with a damp cloth or lint roller. The leads are designed to be submerged in water for the duration of the protocol. Never submerge your phone or tablet in water. Check all connections to ensure appropriate functionality of the iCare. If you hear a sound during use, it indicates a poor connection and you should stop the protocol, re-check the connection, and try again

Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

  • How does it work?

The iCare is an app-based PEMF frequency generator.  It creates the sounds (in Hertz) of customized frequency pairs that your provider programs for you.  The PEMF pad is a felt pad with two copper coils which, when plugged into the audio jack on your cellphone, transforms the pulsed sound vibrations into an electromagnetic field which, when placed near your body, can elicit positive changes in your health at a cellular level.

  • How do I learn how to use the unit?

You are responsible for watching the Online Training Videos (a link and password will be provided when you have purchased the iCare). The training videos help you learn about how to use the device at your own pace and saves us time during appointments.  You will also be provided with a written "Quick Start Guide" when you receive your unit.  After you have watched all the Online Training Videos and worked with your unit for a few days, it is recommended to schedule a follow up visit (either in person or telehealth) with Dr. Jessie so she can answer your questions, ensure that you understand how to use the device and know how to follow your Plan of Care and make the best out of your program.

  • What is the cost of the unit?

The cost of the unit includes initial programming, the iCare PEMF pad and leads, online training videos, text messaging support and monitoring of your daily log during the first month of use.  For pricing, please see the Agreement sent to you in the Charm Portal for details.

  • What is a Daily Log?

A daily log is a HIPAA-compliant google document that only you and Dr. Jessie have access to where you type in which protocol(s) you run and your treatment response.  This is a requirement for at least the first month (and optimally ongoing) when you work with Dr. Jessie so that she can monitor your responses and observe patterns that you may not recognize.  We have seen that this really optimizes treatment results when clients are involved in tracking their responsiveness to protocols.  It enables us to hone in on the very best plan of care to support your wellness goals.

  • Can I return the unit?

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the materials, the unit is non-returnable and non-refundable.  Jessie always uses an iCare during an in-person visit so you can validate your treatment response prior to purchase.  If you are a remote or telehealth client, Jessie will go through a detailed intake process to be sure that your protocols will work to address your treatment goals.  Dr. Jessie is a leader in the field of frequency medicine and prides herself on supporting optimal outcomes for all of her clients.  We are confident that you will love your iCare Home Unit!

  • Is the iCare classified as a Medical Device?

No.  The iCare is considered a wellness device and does not have FDA clearance or involvement.

  • Is the iCare covered by my insurance?

No.  Since this is classified as a wellness device (and not a medical device), there is no CPT code for this kind of a device and insurance will not cover the iCare.

  • Can I talk on my phone while I run a protocol on the iCare?

Since the iCare works via the audio feature on your phone, an incoming phone call, notification ding, playing music, or listening to a podcast will pause your iCare protocol.  You can press "Resume" when you wish to return to where you left off.  Best practice is to put your phone on Airplane Mode so your protocol does not get interrupted.  Some individuals prefer to load the iCare onto an older iPhone so that they can keep the functionality of their cellphone during iCare sessions.  Another advantage to using an older device is that you don't have to use a Dongle (adapter), as older phones still have a standard headphone audio jack, iCare's preferred connection port.

  • What is a Dongle?

A dongle is a funny name for an adapter.  Since most modern phones now have a lightning jack rather than a standard headphone jack, a dongle is an adapter that enables you to run the iCare on a modern phone that has a lightning jack.  You will be provided with a link to the developer-approved dongles when you purchase your iCare (there are also links at the bottom of this page to the appropriate dongles; beware: not all dongles are alike and you should use the developer-approved brands for the optimal iCare experience.).

  • How often do I run protocols?

Most commonly, Dr. Jessie will set you up with one protocol group to run each night of the week.  We have found that people are most compliant (meaning are able to follow the Plan of Care) when they are able to treat at night, while they are asleep.  These nightly protocols serve as the foundation, and then clients are able to pick from a "menu" of protocols in their Plan of Care to run during the day if they choose to supplement with additional support.

THE iCARE APP SUBSCRIPTION ($15 / MONTH)

  • How does the app purchase / subscription work?

The iCare app must be activated by Dr. Jessie before you will be able to run protocols.  Once Activated, you will set up the app subscription through this link or directly inside of the app on the Resources Tab.  You will enter a credit card and subscribe to a monthly billing cycle.  The price is $15 per month in order to utilize the app.  You can stop the app subscription at any time by clicking here or tapping on Resources and tapping Cancel iCare Basics Subscription (follow instructions).  When you are ready to re-start your subscription, follow the same steps as before.  All of your customized protocols will be there waiting for you.

  • Can I stop / start the monthly app subscription?

      Yes!  See above.

  • How do I subscribe to the iCare-PEMF app?

A one-time setup either through Paypal or Paypal Credit (no paypal account necessary if you select this option) through this page ($15 / month directly to the app developer - link to set up your subscription can be found in the app on your Resources Tab OR by clicking here).  Note: you won't be able to Register / Activate your app until Dr. Jessie has Activated you.

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

  • How much storage space does the app require?

The app itself is small: it requires 140 MB of storage. However, depending on the complexity of the protocols designed by your provider, the size can range up to 400 MB and potentially more.

  • What Version of iOs is required?

    iOs 11.0 or later

  • What platforms support the iCare?

Both iOs and Android are supported -- you'll find the apps available through the App Store or Play Store: search "iCare-PEMF"

  • How many protocols can fit on the iCare app?

So far, no one has surpassed the limit of the number of protocols.  As long as you have storage space on your phone, you have virtually unlimited capacity to store protocols.

  • What level of technological prowess does one need in order to successfully operate the iCare?

If you can download an app, put your phone in Airplane Mode, pay for a subscription on PayPal, plug in a dongle (adapter) and tap a few buttons, you can use iCare.

  • How many protocols can I run at one time?

You can run two protocols at once by loading one into the Resources tab and playing a second protocol from the Personal Protocols tab.

  • Can I run multiple protocols back-to-back?

Yes, the iCare enables you to create unlimited "Groups" for this purpose.  Gropus are easy to change and modify as needed.

THE PEMF PAD

  • What material is the iCare pad made of and how do you clean it?

The exterior of the PEMF pad is felt and it is recommended that you keep the iCare felt pad inside of its clear bag for easier cleaning with witch hazel or alcohol.  We always include a Protective Case made of a waterproof material for easy sanitization.

  • How far does the PEMF field reach?

The range of the strongest electromagnetic fidle has been measured to reach approximately 6 inches; however, we know that the field reaches up to 11 feet fromt he pad, with a weaker field farther from the pad.

  • Do materials (scarp, protective case, sheets, clothing, purse, fanny pack, etc) impede the effectiveness of the field?

The electromagnetic field can easy penetrate cloth, clothing, plastics

  • What about radiation from the phone being in your field while you run the protocols?

Best practice is to always run protocols in Airplane mode during any treatment session.  The iCare app only ever needs internet or cell data to retrieve the protocols your provider sends you.

  • Where do I put the PEMF pad?

You'll watch a video on "Standard Placements," but also note that because the PEMF pad emits a field that extends up to 10 feet away, you can place the PEMF pad on the bedside table or the headboard of your bed or under the sheets while you are sleeping and will still get an effect.  The PEMF pad is its most effective within 6 inches of the pad.

  • Any tips or techniques for keeping the PEMF pad in place?

You can use a Scarp (Scarf which contains a Pouch) that have a pouch to hold the PEMF pad and your phone; you can tie them around your neck or waist or knee, etc.  We also sell elastic velcro which is low-profile and can help adhere the pad anywhere on the body.  Some choose to use an Ace bandage wrap, or a running vest with multiple pockets (for the phone, scarp, and accessories!).

  • How do I know if a protocol is helping me?

The most obvious positive responses to the frequencies include the 'dorph' (endorphin) response, feeling relaxed, feeling floaty, feeling a type of 'high' or all-over good feeling, feeling buzzed, feeling a reduction in pain, falling asleep, feeling warmth anywhere in the body (even outside of where the pad is placed), feeling tingly, feeling drowsy, and other pleasant sensations.  Some people feel nothing until they wake up the next day or even 2 days after when they notice an increase in energy, decrease in pain, or overall improvement in wellbeing.

  • What if I feel an increase in pain during or after a protocol?

This is an uncommon response.  Since the frequencies may be effective at reducing inflammation, if you feel an increase in pain after a protocol, this can potentially mean that there is an occult (hidden) infection that you may not have known about that needs to be addressed.  If this happens, STOP the protocol that you are running, make an appointment or contact Dr. Jessie immediately for specific instructions.  The most common places for an occult infection include the jaw, but can occur anywhere in the body.

  • What if I feel sore, body aches, nausea, dizziness, or other unpleasant responses to a protocol?

This is uncommon and is likely a Herx or detoxification reaction.  Since we know that FSM can increase ATP production in your cells by up to 500%, your body can initiate a detox reaction to certain protocols, because with the extra energy available in the cells, they are able to excrete toxins more efficiently.  Sometimes, this indicates that you simply need to drink more water.  The Herx response is actually a good sign: it means we are onto the root cause of your issues; it is also a sign that we need to support your detox pathways and may need to shift your plan of care to address these issues first.  If you have a Herx response, STOP the protocol and make an appointment or contact Dr. Jessie.

  • How frequently can I run ____ protocol.

That depends on the protocol.  Some are fine to run once or even twice per day.  With others, it's recommended to run only once per week.  Check with your Plan of Care provided by Dr. Jessie.

  • Can I use the unit on my husband / daughter / neighbor?

The official answer is no.  Think of this unit as a prescription.  It was prescribed to you.  A detailed history was taken to determine the best frequency combinations for your body, and running the unit on someone arbitrarily could pose problems.  It is possible to share a unit within a household if members get an initial evaluation and establish a plan of care.  Discuss this with Dr. Jessie if you need more clarity.

USES OF PEMF

  • Can I use the iCare to support a surgery?

Absolutely!  We believe there should be an iCare device in every doctor's office and every surgery room!  We have supported ACL reconstructions, hip replacements, rotator cuff repairs, shoulder replacements, mastectomies, liposuction procedures, dental surgeries including tooth extractions, cavitation, root canals, biceps tears, triceps tears, and births / postnatal care for Mom & baby.  Using frequency medicine before, during, and after surgery has consistently reduced recovery times by half in all cases Dr. Jessie has treated so far with iCare.  It is very helpful if you can give Dr. Jessie at least 2 weeks notice prior to any surgical procedure, even if "minor," so that she has sufficient time to program your unit (it takes time!).

  • Can I use the iCare to support healthy aging?

Yes!  The iCare is a great way to promote healthy cellular function and optimal aging.

THE CARE PLAN

  • How often do I need to check in with Dr. Jessie?

This totally depends on your Plan of Care and your goals -- this is something that you should discuss with Dr. Jessie.  Many people benefit from an in-person or telehealth follow up visit once per month or every 6-8 weeks in order to ensure you are progressing appropriately, to address any new concerns, and to change the Plan of Care as needed.  However, depending on the condition we are treating, it is sometimes appropriate for more frequent or less frequent check-ins.  This is true individualized medicine; there is no algorithm that works for 100% of patients or conditions.

  • How much water do I need to drink?

When you're coming in for an appointment, you should have sipped 32 oz of pure, unadulterated water (not tea or coffee or Gatorade) in the 2 hours before the appointment.  If you are using the iCare daily at home, you may notice that your body feels more dehydrated: the frequencies require more water than most people typically drink in order to work optimally. 1-2 four-oz glasses of water per hour until 6:00 pm is sufficient for most people.  If you have a hard time feeling hydrated or want to optimize your treatment effect, we recommend 20 drops of Aussie trace minerals 1-2x per day, available in the office.  Learn more about hydration here.

  • What about if I am treating overnight? I can't drink water while I'm sleeping ...?

If you are staying well-hydrated during the day, it will be OK for you to stop hydrating at about 6pm and due to the mechanisms and hormones that shift for sleep, you will be fine to run protocols overnight.  It is still important to remain hydrated during the day for optimal treatment, and if you feel dry or parched upon waking, that means you'll need to to a better job staying hydrated during the day.

  • Where can I order replacement electrodes, clips, etc?

Scroll up to the top of this page and click on the STORE page for our website, click SHOP SUPPLEMENTS & MORE on the drop-down, then scroll down or just click FREQUENCY SPECIFIC MICROCURRENT to be taken directly to the section dedicated to iCare and FSM products.  For your convenience, we have also placed links at the bottom of this page.

  • How is PEMF at The Healing Collective different?

Dr. Jessie is an expert in the field of Frequency Medicine.  FSM and PEMF are her primary modalities that she uses with every patient in the clinic.  She has specialized Functional Medicine training that enables her to see you and treat you from a truly holistic perspective.  Some clinics have FSM and PEMF as adjunctive modalities, whereas here, you will receive these treatments as a primary modality.  This means you'll have an experience of frequency medicine in its fullness.
