Dr. Jessie Tierney, PT, DPT, E-RYT

Jessie is a Doctor of Physical Therapy with specialized training in Functional Manual Therapy, Medical Therapeutic Yoga, and Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM).

She empowers clients to optimize their movement patterns, get out of pain, and truly thrive in their bodies. Appointments provide clients with one-on-one, focused attention that addresses the root cause of movement dysfunction, providing hands-on interventions and education.

Jessie loves helping individuals dealing with chronic or unresolved pain as well as those who are looking to optimize the way they move through life. Our bodies are meant to feel great, and Jessie offers an integrative approach to unveiling her clients' innate wholeness. She draws from over ten years of yoga teaching experience and over seven years in the physical therapy field with an intense passion for continuing education. She graduated from Wheeling Jesuit University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program in 2018, where she conducted research on the effects of yogic breathing on chronic low back pain. She is an Experienced-Registered Yoga instructor certified through the ShambhavAnanda School of Yoga since 2010.

When she’s not in the clinic, Jessie can be found exploring the trails on horseback, on foot, or by snowshoe, meditating, and practicing or teaching yoga.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is a technique for treating pain using low-level (microamperage) electrical current.  The current is delivered to specific body parts in an attempt to relieve pain.  A frequency is the rate at which an electronic pulse is produced, measurable in hertz (Hz).  In using FSM in the clinical setting, it has been indicated that various frequencies can be used to potentially reduce inflammation (swelling), repair tissue, and reduce pain.  It is a non-invasive and painless treatment that may help reduce pain without drugs or surgery. Dr. Jessie was trained by Dr. Carolyn McMakin, a pioneer and leader in the field.

FSM is currently being researched and utilized at the Cleveland Clinic, at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for Wounded Warriorsat Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, and elsewhere.

Embark on your path to pain-free, optimal movement without drugs or surgery with the guidance of Jessie Tierney, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). Dr. Jessie can help you when other treatments, like standard Physical Therapy, haven't succeeded in your recovery.

Dr. Jessie Tierney has specialized training in Functional Manual Therapy, an integrated approach to optimizing human movement through specific motor control training, neuromuscular re-education, and maximizing mechanical function. This approach emphasizes soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, joint mobilization, and skilled therapeutic exercise training.

Dr. Jessie also brings her broad experience and advanced training in Medical Therapeutic Yoga and Pain Neuroscience and her research on the effects of Pranayama (yogic breathing) on low back pain.

The Healing Collective is the only clinic in the region to offer Frequency Specific Microcurrent, a new technology that effectively and non-invasively treats pain and inflammation.

With a big heart and an eagerness to help her clients reach their highest potential, Dr. Jessie offers a holistic healing experience to get you back to your best.

At your first visit, you and Jessie will explore and discuss your lifestyle, habits, beliefs, and orientation to your body in order to best cater the yoga session to your individual personality and needs.

She will then guide you through the Yoga Movement ScreenTM developed in the ShambhaVananda school of yoga and adapted from Gray Cook's FMS.  This is an assessment of your functional movements via yoga asanas (postures) in order to determine what limitations your body presents with and how to best address them.

Next, Jessie will help you learn asana, pranayama, and meditation practices that address your body's limitations and develop a home practice specifically for you. She will make lifestyle recommendations and depending upon your needs, may incorporate some manual therapy techniques for optimal results.

This system works best when you schedule at least three to six sessions, preferably one week apart, so that together you and Jessie can address aspects that are challenging and progress you so you can optimize your healing journey.
